Student Leadership

Warrandyte High School recognises the importance of developing the leadership skills of our students.

Student Representative Council (SRC)

All students are represented on this body which is the peak organisation for discussing issues that are pertinent to students. Elections take place in Term 4 for the following year, with the exception of incoming Year 7 students. All SRC students undergo formal leadership training. The SRC also organises and runs the annual student Talent Quest.

Formal Leadership positions

At the end of every year students in Year 11 have the opportunity to take part in the selection process for School Captains. Students that apply for the role undertake an exhaustive selection process which includes a written application, presentation to students and an interview. The selected School Captains represent the school in formal situations and are co-opted community members on School Council. They are ably supported by a Senior Student Leadership team who take on a variety of tasks including running lunchtime activities for students, organising guest speakers and assisting staff with a variety of wellbeing activities such as staff versus student sporting activities.

Senior House Captains are also selected through an application process. These House Captains lead their Houses in sporting events such as House Swimming Sports and Athletics.

There are additional leadership opportunities for students in year 7 and 8 through the wellbeing leadership programs that are run each year. The Year 7’s develop and perform a drama performance for their peers in the Friendship and Anti Bullying Conference and the Year 8 student leaders develop their own workshops to deliver to their peers in the Drug and Alcohol Education Program

Citizenship

Whilst the concepts of civics and citizenship are covered in formal classes, there are opportunities for representing these attributes in forums such as the ANZAC Day service and as a member of the Advance CFA program.

Class Captains

All form groups from Year 7 to 10 elect class captains. Class captains assist with planning activities for students. These may include whole day activities or sporting teams for lunchtime activities. Class captains will work closely with Year Level Leaders.
